For each of these methods, I started with 5″ squares. I thought that was a great size as you tin utilise amuse squares!
Disappearing iv Patch Cake – Method 1
Stride 1: Make a 4 Patch Cake
Similar to the Disappearing Nine Patch block, this cake starts with a basic block. This time it is a 4 patch. Easy peasy.
Stride two: Then you lot cutting information technology upwards!
First by cutting the block, ane″ from the middle seam on two sides.
And then cut the other two sides.
Using a rotating cutting mat, or just rotating your mat, will be very helpful here so you don't have to practice cut gymnastics!
Footstep iii: Move the pieces around
At present the commencement stride is to rotate the centre block one plough.
Then swap the corner squares. The long skinny pieces don't motility!
Step 4: Sew it back together
Now sew the block together.
Tada! The blocks should measure out 8 ½" x 8½".
Disappearing four Patch Block – Method ii
Step i: Make 2 iv patch blocks.
For this method, start with two different four patch blocks. My blocks happen to have the aforementioned lite material but they don't have to; yous tin can employ different backgrounds for each.
Stride 2: Cutting them up!
To cut these 2 blocks, kickoff by cut a strip ii ½" wide from each side and set the rectangles bated.
Take the middle unit of measurement and cut a ii ½" wide strip from each side.
Do this for both blocks!
Step iii: Mix and Match
Now you go to decide if you desire to mix up the units with all the same fabric in a block or mix and match the blocks.
If you utilize 1 color, they will look like this:
If you mix the colors, they will look like this:
Which I think is more fun then that is how I made mine.
Step iv: Sew the rows together.
Start by sewing the pieces in the eye row together.
Next yous will add the top and lesser rows.
You lot will observe that they are longer than the center row. Match up the centers of the rows and and then one time the cake is sewn, trim the superlative and bottom rows.
The blocks should measure 8 ½" x viii½".
